யாழ்ப்பாணப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் முகாமைத்துவ பீடத்தில் கல்வி கற்கும் பெளத்த மாணவர்களால் பல்கலைக்கழக வளாகத்தில் அமைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த வெசாக் அலங்காரக் கூடுகள் நேற்று இரவு இனந்தெரியாத நபர்களால் சேதப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளதாக பல்கலைக்கழக மாணவர்களால் கோப்பாய் பொலிஸில் இன்று முறைப்பாடொன்று பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது.

புத்த பகவானின் வெசாக் பண்டிகையை முன்னிட்டு 30.05.2026 அன்று குறித்த மாணவர்களால் இந்த அலங்காரக் கூடுகள் காட்சிப்படுத்தப்பட்டிருந்தன. எனினும், நேற்று அதிகாலை அவை சேதப்படுத்தப்பட்டிருப்பதை அவதானித்த பல்கலைக்கழக பாதுகாப்பு உத்தியோகத்தர்கள் கோப்பாய் பொலிஸாருக்கு தகவல் வழங்கியுள்ளனர்.

இன்று (01.06.2026) காலை, முகாமைத்துவ பீட மாணவர்கள் இந்த சம்பவம் தொடர்பாக கோப்பாய் பொலிஸ் நிலையத்தில் முறைப்பாடொன்றையும் பதிவு செய்துள்ளனர். மேலும், சுமார் 300 மாணவர்கள் வரை இந்தச் செயலைக் கண்டித்து இன்றைய தினம் அமைதியான எதிர்ப்பு நடவடிக்கையில் ஈடுபட்டதாகவும் அறியப்படுகிறது.

இனங்களுக்கும் மதங்களுக்கும் இடையில் முரண்பாடுகளையும் அவநம்பிக்கையையும் ஏற்படுத்தும் நோக்கில் மேற்கொள்ளப்படும் இத்தகைய சமூக விரோதச் செயல்களை சர்வஜன அதிகாரம் கட்சி வன்மையாகக் கண்டிக்கிறது.

இந்தச் சம்பவத்துடன் தொடர்புடையவர்கள் விரைவாக அடையாளம் காணப்பட்டு சட்டத்தின் முன் நிறுத்தப்பட வேண்டும் என பொலிஸாரிடம் நாம் வலியுறுத்துகிறோம்.

அதேவேளை, யாழ்ப்பாணப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் கல்வி பயிலும் தென்னிலங்கையைச் சேர்ந்த சிங்கள மற்றும் முஸ்லிம் மாணவர்களுடன் எமது ஒற்றுமையையும் ஆதரவையும் இத்தருணத்தில் வெளிப்படுத்துகிறோம். அவர்கள் அனைவரும் பாதுகாப்பாகவும் அச்சமின்றியும் தமது கல்வி நடவடிக்கைகளை முன்னெடுக்கக்கூடிய சூழல் உறுதிப்படுத்தப்பட வேண்டும் என்பதையும் வலியுறுத்துகிறோம்.

It has been reported that Vesak decorations displayed within the premises of the University of Jaffna by Buddhist students studying at the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce were vandalized by unidentified individuals during the night.

These Vesak decorations had been exhibited by the students on 30.05.2026 to mark the sacred Vesak celebration commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of Lord Buddha. However, university security officers observed that the decorations had been damaged during the early hours of the following morning and subsequently informed the Kopay Police.

Today (01.06.2026), students of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce lodged a formal complaint with the Kopay Police regarding the incident. It is also reported that approximately 300 students participated in a peaceful protest in order to express their opposition to this act of vandalism.

Sarvajana Balaya strongly condemns such anti-social acts that are carried out with the apparent intention of creating discord, mistrust, and tension among different ethnic and religious communities.

We call upon the police authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, identify those responsible, and bring them before the law without delay.

At the same time, we wish to express our solidarity and support for the Sinhala and Muslim students from the southern parts of the country who are studying at the University of Jaffna. We reaffirm our commitment to standing with them and emphasize that all students must be able to pursue their education in an environment that is safe, secure, and free from intimidation.
