One perspective that comes out of Arun Siddhartha’s reflections can be enormously positive. A feature article in The Island Financial Review of February 16, 2023, served as a formal announcement for the inaugural function of a new NGO, the People’s Convention on Good Governance (PCGG), which was scheduled to be held on February 25, 2023.
Approximately 1,600 delegates were expected to attend the event, including then-President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who had been elected by Parliament following the ouster of Gotabaya Rajapaksa about seven months earlier, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunewardane, cabinet ministers, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, several noteworthy parliamentarians, leaders of all political parties, members of the diplomatic community, corporate leaders, professionals, university deans, civic leaders, youth leaders, other distinguished personalities, and a representative group of citizens who could contribute to good governance by making informed choices.

There was a time, we had no means to convey to society, the injustice to our family. I resolved to one day have my say. We were silenced for 32 years. It was only after the conflict ended in 2009 that we saw some relief. At least we had an opportunity to tell the outside world what we had gone through. I am grateful to the Government of Sri Lanka for this chance to tell our version of the story. I raise my hands in gratitude.
It was only after this island was freed from the terror of LTTE, that the victims of LTTE were given a chance to express what they had endured silently.
